Our challenge was to create a custom-made, real-time monitoring system for the artistic heritage at Palazzo del Monte in the historic center of Vicenza, Italy, for environmental and security purposes. So we’ve built a system featuring motion sensors, cameras, GPS, and sensors for gasses and particulate matter.
Palazzo del Monte, officially opened in 1486, served as the home of an initiative established to counter the widespread practice of usury in Vicenza at that time. Today it is a building of historical significance that, in addition to housing shops, offices, and residences, hosts exhibitions, performances, and other cultural activities.
The real-time environmental monitoring system includes a gas sensor capable of detecting ammonia, sulfide, LPG, propane, methane, hydrogen, alcohol, smoke, carbon monoxide, and other harmful gasses, and a particulate matter sensor capable of measuring PM1.0, PM2.5, and PM10. Data is transmitted to custom-built dashboards using the Thingsboard Cloud platform. Additionally, tenants’ GPS location can be tracked, offering a clear picture of the situation in real-time. Another dashboard is dedicated to the status of the systems, for prompt intervention in case of technical problems.
