How CIOs lead People, Culture and Technology through Digital Transformation

“IT alone cannot deliver digital transformation.” That was one of the key takeaways from the CIO Hub at Forum Banca 2026, which we co-hosted with Daniele Acito, Head of ICT Compliance at Gruppo BCC Iccrea, Andrea Benetello, CIO of Cherry Bank and Valerio Nosci, Executive Director and Head of Group IT at Banca Finint.

It was a great opportunity to sit down with a select group of C-level leaders from the sector and talk about the day-to-day realities of banks, which we have worked with for over 15 years. The timing could not be more relevant: AI is the buzzword in every conversation, but it is also a disruptive technology that is rewriting, or promising to rewrite, processes at remarkable speed.

Digital transformation is a team effort. IT, business and control functions, and HR too, need to work together to meet the challenges of such a complex era. Communication matters as well: the value of technological innovation comes across best when it is kept simple, helping decision-makers understand what is being proposed. Often, value needs to come before cost. That is why soft skills count as much as technical ones when it comes to turning a project idea into reality and bringing innovation into an organization.

Finally, there is a point we often raise as a tech partner: process knowledge cannot be delegated. AI does not replace human expertise, and governance must stay in the hands of the people who own those processes. That is why training is essential: it helps teams understand what AI can and cannot do.
